About us
LawSol was founded in 2015 to support users of the SOS Connect product and provide an expert level of script-writing services at an accessible price. We began with just two clients — both still with us today — and have since grown to support over 30 SOS clients on their journey to improve efficiency, compliance and the product experience for their users.
Since 2024 we've held our Actionstep partnership accreditation, passing the benefits of our legal caseflow experience on to our Actionstep clients.
Our people
A small but growing team of employees and consultants — every one with real experience in legal practice or legal software.
After a spell in the Army, John moved into IT and joined SOS in 2003 as its first script-writing consultant. After six years he was poached by a leading Devon law firm, spending six years designing Connect applications across almost every area of law. He founded LawSol in 2015. A guide-dog volunteer, he's currently raising puppy 'Gem'.
A Mathematics graduate of the University of Exeter, Guy joined SOS on John's recommendation and spent 18½ years there, leaving as a senior technical engineer. He joined LawSol in 2022 and, alongside applications development, provides a broad range of technical services across our client base. A keen snowboarder and semi-professional croquet player.
Rob joined LawSol in April 2025 after 14 years as a Senior Development Analyst at a West London law firm, and earlier years consulting at SOS. With over 20 years in legal IT, he's a Microsoft Certified specialist in the Power Platform, specialises in AI-driven efficiency projects, and is highly experienced in integrating legal software.
Michael spent 23 years as Head/Director of IT at a leading London law firm before retiring in 2020. An expert in producing reports within SOS Connect, he ensures your firm's leaders get management-level reporting inside the same application they run their cases from. Usually found on the golf course.
Matt joined LawSol in April 2026 after many years at a North Devon law firm, bringing first-hand experience of life inside a law firm to everything he builds. An Actionstep specialist and SOS Connect script writer, he splits his spare time between cruising the canals on his boat, holidays in Greece and some serious gaming.
Jon sadly passed away at our company summer event on 14th August 2025. A popular member of the team, both internally and with clients, his profile remains here as a tribute. After a varied career as a geophysicist and 20+ years at the Met Office, Jon spent almost eight years as an in-house SOS scripter before bringing his technical skills to LawSol.

John was recommended to us by another SOS user. We urgently needed some of our precedent templates updated and no longer had the resource in house to do this. We spent 20 minutes discussing what we already had on the system and John was able to quickly propose (in a non-technical way) some very cost-effective updates which would marry up nicely with our ‘Paper Light’ strategy. The automatic signatures and letter-head templates we can now produce reduce both time and paper.
From our initial conversations — and project success — it was clear that our system had a lot of unrealised potential. I was happy to offer further work to deliver his other proposals, and I am very pleased that I did. The system we are working towards is leaps ahead in efficiency! It was also refreshing to have a full and frank discussion regarding fee structure which, as a small company, is really important to me — John came within budget and within the agreed time frames.

We initially contacted LawSol in 2017 for assistance with an upgrade and some minor changes to our systems. Prior to this, we had little idea what our system was capable of. Since then LawSol have delivered a large number of projects that have improved and streamlined our compliance, paper-light and financial processes. Their simple terms of engagement allow us to improve our systems cost-effectively without the monthly commitment. One of their greatest strengths is the ability to explain and articulate technical concepts in a way those involved at our end can understand.
